brantly Diamanda hasn't failed us in over 30 years, and on this deconstructed LP her operatic-neo-archaic-avant-garde--fear/love-inducing artistic capacity is in full shine...it's raining, I am avoiding the news for the rest of the day, there is a whiskey in my hand, a cat by my side, a wife reading in a chair, and this LP is spinning its unnerving/comforting aural wonder on my turntable making it a wonderfully and beautifully strange Sunday afternoon...drink up!

Mannie Such a great homage album. Rest in Peace, Ralph Stanley. Favorite track: O Death.

ihcilon I get chills each time I hear Diamanda sing and these are easily the best versions of these songs that I have ever heard. Wonderful and excellent work.

about

All the Way is a collection of radical re-workings of traditional and jazz standards such as “All the Way”, “You Don't Know What Love Is”, and “The Thrill Is Gone” (made famous by Chet Baker).

It also includes a solo piano interpretation of Thelonious Monk's “Round Midnight”, and live voice and piano interpretations of the American traditional “O Death” and the country song, “Pardon Me I've Got Someone to Kill”.

The album includes both electric live performances (recorded in Paris, Copenhagen, and East Sussex) and studio recordings made in San Diego, CA.

Diamanda Galás New York, New York

Diamanda Galás is a Greek-American avant-garde composer and performer, whose work confronts the subjects of violence and despair with political conviction and austerity. Galás rose to prominence in the ‘80s and ‘90s with the recorded trilogy, Masque of the Red Death, and the performance work Plague Mass, which addressed the AIDS crisis in a time of deafening political silence and inaction. ... more
